Indication:
Management of seizure disorders including Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (petit mal variant), akinetic and myoclonic seizures. Also indicated for absence seizures in patients who have failed to respond to succinimides, and for panic disorder with or without agoraphobia in adults.
Dosage & Administration:
Adults: For seizure disorders: initial dose not exceeding 1.5 mg/day in three divided doses; may be increased by 0.5–1 mg every 3 days as required. Maximum daily dose 20 mg. For panic disorder: initial dose 0.25 mg twice daily; target dose 1 mg daily after 3 days.
Children: 0.01–0.03 mg/kg/day in two to three divided doses initially; maintenance 0.1–0.2 mg/kg/day. Not indicated for panic disorder in patients under 18 years.
Special populations or regimens: In elderly or debilitated patients, treatment should be started with a lower dose and adjusted carefully. Gradual withdrawal is recommended to avoid withdrawal symptoms.
